In the rolling hills of Cannonsville, New York, our family’s story began not with opportunity, but with heartbreak. Four generations ago, our great-grandfather worked the land his family had cultivated for years—a farm nestled in the fertile valleys of the Catskills, where bluestone lay beneath the soil like a sleeping giant.

Then came the government’s decision. Eminent domain. The farm land that had sustained our family would be taken to make way for the Cannonsville Reservoir, part of New York City’s expanding water supply system. Families were displaced, homes were flooded, and an entire community watched as their heritage disappeared beneath rising waters.

But our great-grandfather refused to let loss define him. As the government seized the valley below, he looked up—to the mountain rising behind the farm that was no longer his. There, in those ancient slopes, he saw something the government couldn’t take. Quality New York bluestone, formed over 350 million years ago, waiting to be revealed.

With determination born from necessity and pride rooted in craftsmanship, he opened his first quarry on that mountain. What began as an act of survival became a calling. He learned the stone—its grain, its character, its strength. He built a business not just on rock, but on resilience.

Four generations later, we’re still here. The farm is gone, resting beneath the reservoir’s quiet waters, but the mountain remains. And so do we—quarrying, cutting, and supplying bluestone just like our great-grandfather first extracted from the hillside.
